THE EVOLUTION OF THE WVMA LOGO

THE EVOLUTION OF THE WVMA LOGO

Dr. Wm. O’Rourke, who served from 1959 – 1987, 28 years, the longest serving WVMA Executive Secretary/Director.

During most of his tenure the WVMA logo emphasized four main words:

Research - Education – Practice - Public Health

The WVMA logo was changed to a modified logo of the standard AVMA
design in 1970.  Dropping any reference to the WVMA being founded 1915.

Then 11 years later, I designed the above logo and it was adopted as the WVMA              logo in 1981 and was the official logo for 29 years.

Under the leadership of Leslie Grendahl, who severed from 1988 - 2008.  The same logo was retained till 2010.

Note:
If anyone had been observant over the years since 1981, they would have realized the 100th Anniversary would be coming up in 2015.

Then Kim Brown-Pokorny, WVMA Executive Director redesigned the WVMA logo in 2010, dropping any reference to the WVMA was founded in 1915.

That explains, when I called Dr. Chris Booth, the WVMA President in January 2014,
asking him when will the WVMA 100th Anniversary Committee be assigned?  His reply. "What 100th Anniversary?"

The latest WVMA logo was designed to enhance its usage in the digital era.

Many WVMA members may have not noticed the following four words at the
bottom left hand corner of the official letterhead of the WVMA, which features the          above logo:
                                           Integrity
                                           Well-being
                                           Community
                                           Compassion

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the definition of these four words are          as follows:

Integrity:   the quality of being honest and fair
Well-being:   the state of being happy, healthy, or successful
Community:   a group of people who have the same interests, religion, race, etc.
Compassion:  sympathetic consciousness of others' distress together with a desire  to alleviate it
