The past year
has been a year of increased pressure on the veterinary practitioner due to
inflation, decreased large animal prices and unemployment among or
clientele. Added to this, the start of
the new college of veterinary medicine has made many practitioners feel that
the market for their services may soon be flooded by new graduates.
The new
college of veterinary medicine is now a fact so, hopefully, we can work to see
that this college will serve our needs and turn out qualified graduates. I would hate to see our negativism turn this
college into a diploma mill.
The
veterinarians of Wisconsin are as good as those anywhere in the world! I know that together we can meet any
challenges to our profession and turn the lemons (challenges) into lemonade
(success).
I was honored
to represent the WVMA with Governor Lee Sherman Dreyfus in his office to
witness the proclamation of Sunday, October 18th as “Veterinary
Medicine Appreciation Day. “
Special note: At the time of our interviews, Dr. Fletcher
had moved out of state, numerous attempts were made to contact him. The above statement was published in the Annual
1981 WVMA Directory and from the AVMA PR idea exchange, Winter 1981.
